Biography
Lisa Rein is the Producer, Editor and co-host of the Mindplex Podcast, which she co-hosts with Dr. Benjamin Goertzel and Grace and Desdemona Robot. She is also an Editor at Large for Mindplex Magazine.
She is a co-founder of Aaron Swartz Day and a co-founder of Creative Commons, where she worked with Aaron Swartz on its technical specifications. Lisa is also a VR Experience developer and a musician and visual artist performing as Lunar Elf.
For more than 25 years, Lisa been a freelance journalist, writing for Wired, Boing Boing, CNET, Mondo 2000, XML.com, OpenP2P.com, IEEE's Internet Computing and many others. She has been a technology consultant for about 15 years, with clients including: Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG), KurzweilAI.net and Singularity University.
She is the Digital Librarian for the Dr. Timothy Leary Futique Trust and was the Text Editor and Graphics Editor for Dr. Timothy Leary’s last published work: The graphic novel Surfing the Conscious Nets (Last Gasp, 1995). Lisa is Chelsea Manning’s Archivist and was her ‘Communications Liason’ from December 2015 – May 2017.
Lisa has been an educator for the past 20 years, lecturing on News, Social Media, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality and many other topics for the Broadcast Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) department at San Francisco State University, and at Rutgers University, with Dr. Ben Goertzel, on Artificial Intelligence and the Singularity. She “Introduction to News”, with over 120 students a semester, for the BECA department at SFSU, from 2014-2017, and also taught XML for the University of San Francisco and UC Berkeley Extension Online, from 1999-2003.
