Gates predicts artificial intelligence will cut human roles in medicine and education within a decade, bringing free expertise.
Bill Gates said that artificial intelligence (AI) will soon handle many tasks humans do now, New York Post reports. On “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, Gates argued that AI will change medicine and education in under 10 years. Today, good doctors and teachers are rare and vital. Soon, AI could give great medical advice and tutoring for free, he claims.
Gates talked more about this idea with Harvard professor Arthur Brooks. He calls it “free intelligence.” AI will spread into daily life, helping with healthcare, diagnosing illnesses, and teaching kids. Gates finds this exciting but a bit scary. It’s happening fast, and there’s no limit to what AI might do. Some experts think AI will boost human work and create new jobs. Others worry it will take jobs away.
In his book “The Coming Wave,” Mustafa Suleyman says AI will replace workers. It will make us smarter and richer for a while. Then it will do the work itself. Gates stays hopeful, though. He sees AI fixing health problems, climate issues, and education gaps.
Humans won’t be needed for most tasks
Gates told Fallon humans won’t be needed for most tasks soon. AI will handle making things, moving stuff, and growing food. Some jobs, like entertainment, will stay human, he adds. Gates knows AI has flaws, like spreading wrong info online. Still, he’d start an AI company today if he could.
He told CNBC’s “Make It” that AI startups could raise billions easily. Gates pushes young people to explore AI. He talks to them at Microsoft and OpenAI, urging fresh ideas. Good doctors and teachers are hard to find now, he says. AI could make their skills common and free. Gates has seen AI’s power coming for almost 10 years. He believes it will reshape how we live and work fast.
Gates said that recent breakthroughs surpass even his expectations.
