Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated on August 25 that China is ready to work with all countries to continue dialogue and cooperation on frontier areas such as artificial intelligence and embodied intelligence. Speaking at a regular press conference in Beijing, Lin emphasized that China's pursuit of new quality productive forces and technological innovation is rooted in open cooperation and mutual benefit, not in setting up restrictions or seeking exclusive control.
The remarks came as China's humanoid robots recently broke multiple human records at the World Robot Conference and the World Humanoid Robot Games. Lin noted that beyond the sporting events, what is more noteworthy is that humanoid robots are rapidly moving out of labs into real-world industries—sorting packages and assembling parts on factory floors, assisting with elderly care and early childhood education in communities, and performing dexterous tasks like playing ping-pong or folding clothes. Lin stressed that China aims to unlock cooperation potential through technological connectivity, joint standard-setting, and shared markets, so that "innovation in China" and "intelligent manufacturing in China" can translate into a driving force for shared development. Global experts have been urging major powers, including China and the United States, to collaborate on regulating the military application of AI to prevent heightened risks of nuclear conflict. A recent report warns that international cooperation is essential but threatened by competitive tensions among nations and corporations, with stakes potentially including human extinction. The US-China AI feud has already threatened to derail what little remains of bilateral cooperation on AI safety governance.
