Google announced big changes at its I/O conference, Reuters reports. The company wants more people to use artificial intelligence (AI). Google introduced a new $249.99 monthly plan called AI Ultra Plan for advanced users. This plan gives access to powerful AI tools and extra features. It likely aims to compete with OpenAI.
The AI Ultra Plan includes Project Mariner, a tool that automates tasks like clicking on websites. It also offers Deep Think, an improved version of Google’s AI model Gemini, which can solve harder problems. The plan gives 30 terabytes of cloud storage and an ad-free YouTube experience. Google already has other plans, like a $19.99 monthly option with some AI features. Over 150 million people have signed up for these plans.
CEO Sundar Pichai said Google will make AI affordable. He mentioned that Gemini now has 400 million monthly users. Google also updated its search engine with AI Mode, a feature that gives computer-made answers to tough questions. This mode is now available to all users in the United States. Pichai believes AI will expand what search can do, not replace it.
Smart glasses and more AI tools
Google showed off new smart glasses with Android XR software, a system for virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) experiences. The glasses can translate languages in real time, showing text on the lenses. Gemini answered questions about the wearer’s surroundings during a demo. Google is working with Samsung, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster to make more headsets. An XR headset with Samsung will launch later this year.
The company also introduced Veo 3, an AI model that creates realistic videos and audio for filmmakers. Google’s investment in AI is huge, with $75 billion planned this year. This spending helps Google stay ahead in the tech race.
Google describes the AI innovations introduced at Google I/O 2025 in a collection of posts with an introduction by CEO Sundar Pichai.
