Trump has revoked a 2023 executive order to reduce the risks of AI and announced the $500 billion Stargate project for AI infrastructure.

U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked a 2023 executive order signed by Joe Biden that sought to reduce the risks of artificial intelligence (AI), Reuters reports.

The now revoked order aimed to lower risks from AI to consumers, workers, and national security. It mandated that AI developers share safety test results with the government before public release.

The now revoked order also told agencies to set rules for testing and deal with risks like chemical or cyber threats. Biden used this order because lawmakers hadn't passed laws to control AI growth.

The 2024 Republican platform opposed this, saying it blocks AI innovation.

Massive investment in the Stargate project for AI infrastructure

Trump also announced a private sector investment of up to $500 billion for AI infrastructure, Reuters reports.

This investment aims to keep the U.S. ahead in AI technology. OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle plan to form a joint venture named Stargate. They will build data centers to support AI growth and create over 100,000 jobs. The companies have already committed $100 billion, with the rest coming over four years.

Executives from these companies praised the move. The first data centers for this project are in Texas.

AI needs lots of computing power, leading to a demand for specialized data centers. These centers use many chips to process information. Trump also mentioned easing electricity production for these centers.

Shares of Oracle and other tech firms rose with this news. Since ChatGPT's 2022 launch, investment in AI has grown as businesses adopt AI technology.

OpenAI posted more information on the Stargate project to X. The initial equity funders in Stargate are SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX. SoftBank and OpenAI are the lead partners for Stargate, with SoftBank having financial responsibility and OpenAI having operational responsibility.

Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI are the key initial technology partners. This builds on a deep collaboration between OpenAI and NVIDIA going back to 2016 and a newer partnership between OpenAI and Oracle.
