Ropet is a robotics company that brought a new kind of robot pet to CES 2025. This robot uses AI technology to make life more comforting and connected.

“It’s not just a tech gadget; it’s a companion,” says a company press release. “Ropet isn’t just another gadget; it’s a warm friend, an attentive listener, and a joyful companion.”

Made by experts who understand both robotics and emotional AI, Ropet offers a new way to experience technology in daily life, claims the company.

According to Jianbin He, Ropet’s CEO, this robot blends high tech with real emotional bonds, showing how AI can change how we interact with machines.

Ropet feels warm and soft, much like a real pet. It uses an advanced AI model to learn about your personality, making each interaction special. It can keep a child company, support an elderly person, or just be a peaceful presence in a busy home. Ropet adapts to your emotions and surroundings with a camera in its nose and a microphone. It talks to you using ChatGPT when online, but keeps your privacy safe by handling most data on the device itself.

The robot also makes daily life fun by letting you earn points for new accessories and updates, ensuring it’s always engaging. “Ropet isn’t just sitting around,” says the press release. “it grows with you, making your day brighter.”

A loneliness pandemic?

Forbes and other technology news outlets have published positive reviews of Ropet. Futurist Ayesha Khanna notes that oneliness is more common than we might admit. “Traditional pets are a tried-and-true remedy, but not everyone can handle the time, cost, or commitment they demand,” she says. “To me, this speaks volumes about our modern lives. So many of us crave connection but don’t have the bandwidth for the responsibilities that come with it.”

For more details, check out Ropet’s Kickstarter page. Ropet costs $299, and there’s a $319 Ropet Pro.

  1. Beyond the most obvious emotional benefits, what kind of value do you think such a digital agent might bring over time? It could record quite a bit of your 'authentic activity' which can then be utilized for your own personal growth and learning. Even normal pets can help you to reflect yourself and enable all kinds of insights. At least that's my experience with cats. I recall you have a dog so maybe you know what I mean 😁

    1. I'm not inclined to try Ropet or similar because I'm happy with the real thing. But I'm open-minded and impatient to see what is next. One day robotic pets could be conscious creatures with filings. They could love us and expect to be loved.
