Tyrannus Foundation has chosen 34 films for its 2026 Angel Awards, selecting work from 636 submissions representing 84 countries. Winners will be announced on October 24 at AI Film Summit Los Angeles, held at City Club Los Angeles.
The foundation assessed entries on visual quality, inventive use of AI, storytelling, emotional impact and expressions of hope and humanity. Its stated emphasis is on whether technical accomplishments serve a film’s narrative, rather than on impressive imagery alone.
That distinction echoes earlier scrutiny of AI-assisted feature production, where human screenwriting and creative direction remained central to the finished work. Separate commentary on lower-cost video creation has explored how generative tools could broaden access for filmmakers unable to finance conventional production. The debate is therefore as much about authorship and opportunity as it is about automation.
Nine awards will recognize directing, screenwriting and production across Original, Adaptation and Animation categories. Four special nominations are also planned, with their titles to be disclosed alongside the final results.
Selected films are not ranked, and inclusion does not constitute an award. The foundation says winning films will screen during the summit and receive dedicated creator showcases on AISCENIX. For the organizers, recognition is intended to help films reach audiences beyond the competition itself.
