  2. Absolutely a masterpiece! I'm a strong proponent of the reciprocal view that David is talking about. However, I don't see much conflict between competing agents and a collective mind. I guess the parts (or agents) of the system must have some level/type of independence to result in cognitive diversity and any intelligence in the first place. Competition is just continuously bringing a diverse set of different options to the table to choose from and the dynamic social information systems and decision-making structures produce the collective choice based on those options. However, the more intelligent these independent agents, the more intelligent social systems are needed to facilitate the process. The agents may certainly share thoughts without delay, operate on the same underlying knowledge space and experience others' views (or emotions) as they were their own. Couldn't this kind of collective mind still be composed of independent agents making independent decisions.
